Worms in North Texas

North Texas is home for us. We're Living Waters Homestead, a family-run worm farm in Wise County, and we raise live Red Wigglers and European Nightcrawlers for gardeners, homesteaders, and folks all across the northern part of the state. If you garden anywhere in North Texas, we'd be proud to be your worm farm.

Being based right here in the region is the whole point. The worms you'll find from most online sellers ship out of Georgia or up north and spend days on the road. Ours are raised in North Texas and travel a short way to reach you — which, for a living worm, is the difference between showing up tired and showing up ready to work.

Gardening the North Texas Way

Anybody who's put a shovel in the ground up here knows North Texas soil has a personality all its own. Across the region you'll find heavy blackland clay, the sandy and rocky stretches of the Cross Timbers, and plenty of caliche and limestone mixed in. What most of it has in common is that it's tight, low in organic matter, and quick to bake hard in our long, hot summers.

That's the exact problem worm castings are built to solve. Castings add organic matter and living biology to soil that's usually short on both. In clay they help loosen things up so water and roots can move; in sandy or rocky ground they help the soil hold onto moisture and nutrients. Over time, regular use of castings turns difficult North Texas dirt into ground that actually wants to grow something.

The Heat Is the Real Challenge

Our summers are the main reason local worms beat shipped-in worms. Heat is what kills a worm shipment, and a box coming across the Deep South in July is asking for trouble. From here in North Texas, your worms have a short trip and far less heat exposure. We ship Monday through Wednesday and hold orders during dangerous heat or hard freezes, because keeping your worms alive is the whole job.

What We Offer

Red Wigglers are the composting champs — ideal for turning food scraps into rich castings. European Nightcrawlers are larger and hardier, better suited to outdoor beds and cooler weather, and they double as top-notch fishing bait.

Every order comes with our live arrival guarantee. Explore our composting worms, worm bins, and bin supplies to get set up.

We serve the whole region, including the DFW Metroplex, Fort Worth, Dallas, and our home base in Decatur and Wise County. Learn more about our whole operation on our Texas worm farm page.
